Outclassed by a superior opponent, Saina Nehwal on Friday blamed it on her poor court movement and conceded that world No 1 Wang Yihan of China was “too fast” for her. “Yihan was simply too fast for me. I was not moving well and she exploited that. I made some errors in crucial stages,” she said after her 13-21 13-21 defeat.

“I tried hard in some areas but she just did not allow me to settle down and played a fast game throughout. There were hardly any long rallies as Yihan was finishing off quickly and I was not able to counter that kind of a game,” added the top Indian shuttler, who will now play for a bronze medal against another Chinese, Wang Xin.

When asked if she got enough time to recover after the last match on Thursday, Saina explained that it’s not because of recovery time but because of the fast-paced game that Wang played which forced her to commit too many unforced errors.

“Recovery was not a problem. But I was not moving so well today, may be because of tension. I think I tried hard in the second game and took lead for a while but somehow made too many errors again,” she admitted.

The taller Wang moved swiftly on the court, never allowing Saina to engage in rallies, which is her strength. The longest rally of the match lasted only 38 seconds. However, Saina admitted that this should not be taken as any mental barrier.

“There is no mental barrier for me when I play against Wang. I think the way she played today was much better than the last two games she played in this tournament. She was well prepared for this match. Also, she placed so many smashes down the line and that made a huge difference,” observed Saina after her sixth straight loss to the world No 1.

The young Indian shuttler rued the fact that she had no time to learn from such a short match against the world’s best player. “Unfortunately, the match was so short that there was hardly anything to learn from it,” Saina said smiling through her defeat.
