Numair Sani of Khar Gymkhana marched into the quarterfinals of the under-17 boys’ category of NSCI Open Squash Championship at the National Sports Club of India, Worli, by beating Rishi Bhargava 3-0 on Tuesday.
Sani produced a commanding display despite trailing in all the three games. Bhargava took a 2-0 lead in the first game. However, that was soon overturned and Sani raced to the match ball at 10-4.
Bhargava fought back to get to eight points but could go no further.
Bhargava took a lead again in the second game, but this time as well Sani managed to get into rhythm after a shaky start. This game ended with a much more one sided score of 11-3.
Bhargava looked good enough to push the match into the fourth game when he took a big lead of 8-3 in the third. But, once again, Sani was up to the task and put a few points together to equal the score at 9-9. The match was then all but over, the next two points were easily won by the Khar Gymkhana racqueteer with he won the tie.
