New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has cancelled the national team’s tour of Zimbabwe in June.

Chief executive Justin Vaughan confirmed to The Dominion Post last night that he had advised Zimbabwe officials of the decision at an International Cricket Council meeting in Dubai last week.

Vaughan said NZC considered Zimbabwe as an unsuitable place to send the national cricket team but he was open to the tour being played at a neutral venue possibly in June 2011.

The collapse of Zimbabwe's health system and the general unstable environment are the primary reasons for the cricket tour's postponement.

"It was a decision made with the government but we are looking at other options like playing the tour at a neutral venue, most likely South Africa," Vaughan said.

He added that June next year was a possible window for the rescheduling of the tour. He said his decision had met with little resistance from Zimbabwe.
