New Pune IPL franchise named 'Sahara Pune Warriors'

Sahara India Pariwar, owners of the Pune IPL team, unveiled the name and the logo of the team here on Saturday. Sahara Pune Warriors, is what the team will be called.

The Sahara Pune Warriors logo comprise a spear wielding cavalry-warrior on a horse.

“It is with great pleasure that we present the identity of Pune IPL team to the people of Pune,” said managing worker and chairman of Sahara Group Subrata Roy.

What enthralled the over 25,000-odd spectators at the SP College ground was the way Roy opened his speech in Marathi and signed off his 10-minute talk in the same language.

“We have just started the journey and in this short span, the support, affection and respect which we have received from the people of this city is very heartening and makes me feel that this city is my second home,” Roy said.

“We are proud of Sahara India Pariwar and their Pune IPL team,” said the president of the Maharashtra Cricket Association, Ajay Shirke.

Bollywood actor Urmila Matondkar and Mahesh Manjrekar graced the event, while former Indian hockey captain Dhanraj Pillay along with West Zone selector Surendra Bhave and former chairman of the selection committee Chandu Borde were among the others present on the occasion.
