Nelson Piquet Jr may have revealed that he is close to return to Formula One behind the wheels of Force India but the Vijay Mallya-owned team is tight-lipped about their drivers’ line-up for 2010.
In an official statement, Force India stated, “Right now we are on track with our current drivers Adrian Sutil and Vitantonio Liuzzi.”
Piquet didn’t have a drive after the Hungarian Grand Prix when Renault replaced him. He then blew the whistle on the ‘Crashgate’ scandal that saw Renault’s Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds banned. Speaking to a Brazilian website Piquet said, “I am close to Force India at the moment, but to me NASCAR is very interesting so I don’t know yet what is going to happen,” he said.
Other names which are making the rounds to take the seats at the Silverstone-based team are Mercedes-backed Pedro de la Rosa and Paul di Resta.
A Force India official also divulged that the team hasn’t decided the line-up for the three-day young drivers’ test to be held in Jerez, Spain, from December 1 to 3. And according to reports, Neel Jani, Karun Chandhok and Di Resta are favourites for the same.
