Bangladesh vice-captain Mushfiur Rahim hit an unbeaten half-century to provide some much needed Bangladesh resistance as the hosts reached 239-7 at lunch on the third day of the first test against England.
Rahim, who came in at eighth in the order, was 51 not out alongside Naeem Islam (12 not out) at the break.
The wicketkeeper-batsman completed his half-century sweeping off-spinner Graeme Swann for a boundary through square leg.
Rahim and Naeem put on 56 runs for the eighth wicket as Bangladesh fought to avoid the follow on. The home side still need 161 runs to make England, who declared their first innings on 599-6, bat again.
Bangladesh, resuming on 154-5 overnight, suffered a big blow in the third over of the morning when Tim Bresnan bowled opener Tamim Iqbal for 86 with a straight delivery.
Debutant Steven Finn then took his first Test wicket when he had nightwatchman Shahadat Hossain caught by Paul Collingwood at second slip for 14.
