Here’s a doosra from Muttiah Muralitharan: Had there been a referral system in place, India would have beaten Australia in the Test series during their last visit in 2008. Yes, the spin wizard actually said this during his interaction with the media at St Laurn Towers here on Saturday.

Muralitharan said that the International Cricket Council (ICC) will have to realise the importance and relevance of the referral system and enforce it soon. “It will generate lesser complaints and benefit the game in general. What happened to India in Australia?

They should have won the series but couldn’t. The ICC will have to implement the system in the near future,” said Muralitharan, who felt a few decisions in that series made a big difference to the final outcome.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka skipper Kumara Sangakkara took a dig at the ICC over the allotment of Test matches. “There has been a decline in the number of Tests due to ODIs and T20s. All the countries are not getting an equal opportunity to play the longer version,” he said.
