The third edition of the Mumbai Mayor’s Cup chess tournament will commence on June 2.

The event, which is being organised by Venus Chess Academy and conducted by the Bombay Chess Association, will be held at the Goregaon Sports Club.

As many as 40 Grandmasters from 15 countries have confirmed their participation in the tournament.

This will be a golden opportunity for many aspiring players to achieve their GM and international masters (IM) norms and titles.
A record 500 players are expected to participate in this tournament. The prize money of Rs13 lakh is the highest ever in the country.

The winner will walk away with a princely sum of Rs3 lakh.
While Russian GM Alexei Dreev (Fide rating 2655) is the top seed, young GM Parimarjan Negi (2626) will spearhead the Indian challenge. The tournament will be played in a 11- round Swiss League System. The chief arbiter will be veteran international arbiter MD Bhagwat.
