A player from Manchester United had accidentally dropped his contact lenses down a sink in the dressing room just before a big game.
The unnamed player was asked to put on the lenses during matches.
“One of the lads was prescribed contact lenses to wear during games,” the Sun quoted coach Brian McClair as saying.
“Instead of trying them out during the week, he spent 45 minutes before a match attempting to put them in.
“A team-mate tried to help him out by holding his eye open, only for the lens to fall in the sink.
“I cannot comment on how this affected his performance,” he added.
