Manchester United has been slammed by health officials after their renown stadium, Old Trafford was found heaving with rats during an inspection.

United claimed they have a robust pest control system and if incidents do occur they take immediate and appropriate action.

A host of top Premier League clubs, including United, Chelsea and Fulham, were blasted after a catalogue of health nasties was found out during inspections, the Daily Star reports.

They included the stadium riddled with mice, mounds of dead insects, restaurants serving up unprepared chicken and out of date turkey.

The home of the Red Devils, Manchester United's Old Trafford, was plagued with rats, and billionaire Roman Abramovich's club Chelsea has been criticised for serving turkey well past its sell by date at Stamford Bridge, the paper reports.

The clubs were warned it was a serious violation of hygiene laws, however, after the full inspection, the health bosses found out that proper action was taken on their complaints, and they rated the ground 'generally excellent'.

Other findings included Swansea City serving ready-cooked chicken that was still pink.

At Fulham's Craven Cottage, an open box of bread rolls was found while piles of dead insects and cobwebs were found in a drinks area at Reading's Madejski stadium.

United claimed they have a robust pest control system and if incidents do occur they take immediate and appropriate action.
