Malak Singh’s quadruple and six goals in total helped Haryana thrash Gujarat 17-0 in the last set of Junior National Hockey league matches at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Sunday.
Malak opened the flood gates in the second minute, which was followed by Naveen Sangwan’s brace to make it 3-0. Malak took over from there on to begin his goal binge in the 26th minute.
Goals rained one after another in the 28th, 29th and 31st minutes; Gujarat boys appeared as mere spectators.
In all 10 players ended up getting goals against their name. Haryana finished on top of Pool A with nine points leaving Andhra Pradesh to play for pride.
The second match of the day saw Andhra Pradesh blank Mizoram 8-0, with Rameshkumar Pedapenki reeling out a hat-trick.
Srinivas Veligeti drew the first blood in the third minute before Sampathkumar Mylaram and Raghukumar Atmakuru struck one each to make it 3-0.
That’s when Rameshkumar got into business and let in three goals, one in the first half and two after the break.
In the last league encounter, Chandigarh defeated Bengal 4-1 after being down 0-1 at the half-time in Pool C and finished behind Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy.
