Even after winning back-to-back matches and almost assuring the semifinal berth, local giants Mahindra United will look to keep the slate clean when they take on defending champions in the 31st Federation Cup in Guwahati on Saturday.
Featuring in a relatively tough group, former champions Mahindra United in their quest to regain the title that they won four years back, have made a purposeful start to the competition with two successive wins against I-League rivals Chirag United and qualifier Mohammedan Sporting have put them in a good position heading into their final group league fixture.
Mahindra United, currently on six points, just need a draw against Mohun Bagan (four points) to ensure their progress from group B to the last four stage.
IFA Shield and Durand Cup finalists Mohun Bagan, who played out a goalless draw against city rivals Chirag United in their last match, are in desperate need of a victory to make it to the semifinal stage.
In the process of rotating their squad in the two matches, Mahindra United have done well so far in attaining the positive results, but are well aware of the fact that the team is capable of playing much better overall by being more clinical upfront, consistent in the midfield, where they can keep and pass the ball better and show more quality in the final third.
