Maharashtra topped group A after thrashing Tamil Nadu 5-0 in their last match of the national sub-junior football championship for the Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy at the Air India ground in Kalina on Saturday.
Egyptio Noronha pumped in three goals while Adesh Shaikh and Curtis Nazareth completed the tally. But Maharashtra were reduced to 10 men after Clyde Fernandes was given the marching orders for elbowing an opponents’ player. Following the red card offence, Fernandez has been ruled out from the semifinal. The home team will face the winners of Kerala or Goa in the last four stage match on Tuesday.
In another match, Andhra Pradesh cruised to a 5-1 victory over Gujarat, thanks to a hat-trick by OV Stephen. They will take on Karnataka in the other semifinal.
