Maharashtra governor K Sankaranarayanan has congratulated Leander Paes for winning the Wimbledon mixed doubles title, alongside Cara Black of Zimbabwe on Sunday.

In a congratulatory letter to Leander Paes, Sankaranarayanan has said that the entire nation and sports lovers are immensely proud of Paes for winning the 12th Grand Slam crown by clinching the prestigious Wimbledon Mixed Doubles title pairing with Cara Black.

"What impresses me most about you is that you have achieved this success like a lone warrior carrying the expectations of the nation. The people of Maharashtra, your new home State, are especially proud of your achievement," the governor noted.

"While wishing you more glory in your future career, I wish and hope that your success will inspire all sportspersons to better their performances in their respective disciplines," he said.
