It was a dream come true for 24 amateur golfers from across India as they teed off at what Tiger Woods described as one of the best courses he had ever played on.
The grand finale of the McDowells Signature Inter-Club Golf Championship at the Blue Canyon Country Club, Phuket, on Wednesday saw an intense battle to be crowned the best club golf team of the country.
In the first-ever final played in the power play format, Lucknow Golf Club emerged the winners with a huge margin. Belgaum settled for the runners-up spot. Poona Golf Course and Royal Calcutta Golf Club finished third and fourth, respectively.
More than the victory, it was the charm of playing at the course that made the day memorable for the winners as well as for those who could not lay their hands on the silverware.
Though it ended in disappointment for Dr Vinay B Dastikop from Belgaum, he was happy that he got to tee off from the famous Tiger hole. “It’s a great feeling to play on one of the top courses of the continent and specially to tee off on the 13th hole.”
