Kolkata Kinght Riders (KKR) coach Dav Whatmore said here today that the local players were the main force behind the team's strong performance in the third season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Talking to media persons here after the practice session, Whatmore said, "This year KKR has come out stronger because of lot of local talent due to more domestic players in the team."
"More that 50% of the players are from domestic circuit and they have played an important role this season," Whatmore said.
KKR has had a good start this year with victory in two out of the three matches that they have played. They, however, lost against Chennai Super Kings on March 16.
When asked about any injury worries for KKR, Whatmore said that there were no such worries.
"Injury for a player is like a curse. This season there have been injuries in most of the teams, but fortunately we have been safe," he said.
With regard to the injury that Charl Langeveldt suffered, Whatmore said that he was doing fine and would be available for selection after tomorrow's match.
West Indian opener Chris Gayle also joined the team today after missing the first three matches.
KKR team is here for their fourth match against Rajasthan Royals to be played tomorrow at Sardar Patel Stadium at Motera.
Gayle has played only 14 T20 matches. He was not able to play much in the first season of IPL due to injury and in the second he had other commitments.
"I know that I have played less T20 matches. I might have missed the first three matches. But now I am here and plan to stay for longer time," Gayle said.
He said that his presence in the team will enhance the performance and hoped to contribute his best this season.
