Denis Irwin and Quentin Fortune DNA
|
Every Manchester United fan would have envied the kids who got a golden opportunity, not only to interact with the legendary former players Denis Irwin and Quentin Fortune, but were also lucky enough to train with the veterans at the Manchester United Soccer School (MUSS) at Cooperage.
Both former Manchester United players shared few tips on the field with the children and found out that Indian football has got a bright future.
“It will take time and patience. There is potential and Indian Football can only get better from now onwards. The passion for the game will drive them to success,” said the two legends of the famous Premier League Club.
Talking about Indian footballers lacking efficiency to compete at the world level, Fortune said that it doesn’t matter which condition you play the game in, as long as there are good facilities one can succeed anywhere.
Chris O’Brien, head coach of the MUSS in Mumbai, said that the school trains the children the same way as Manchester United Academy does in the UK.
“We teach them specific techniques, have theory classes and give importance to their diet and fitness.” he said
Irwin and Fortune are on their maiden visit to India to promote the club's tie-up with holiday planners, Thomas Cook.
The Red Devil players who have played under the great Sir Alex Ferguson said the manager’s concern for every single thing is the driving force behind the club’s success.
“Not just on the field but also otherwise, he guides us. He wants to win everything. He has the same passion after so many years and if his health permits he will be with the club for many more years.” said Fortune.
The yesteryear players revealed that Ferguson’s famous 'hair dryer treatment’ was just a media sensation and they were lucky enough to be at the receiving end for just a few times.
When asked to pick their favourite football rivals they undoubtedly replied Liverpool. The duo said that playing Manchester City is big but playing against Liverpool is huge.
