The suspended chairman of the Indian Premier League levelled charges of bias, forgery and even manipulation by the top Board officials.
Lalit Modi, lying low since submitting his reply to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s showcause notice to him over 10 days ago, bounced back on Tuesday with a flurry of allegations against the BCCI president and secretary.
In a long letter, circulated to members of the Board, the suspended chairman of the Indian Premier League levelled charges of bias, forgery and even manipulation by the top Board officials.
The letter, dated May 25, has also demanded that president Shashank Manohar be recused from the adjudicating process
of his case and secretary N Srinivasan be immediately
suspended.
According to Modi, Srinivasan submitted false documents before the court and tried his best to influence IPL policies to suit his team Chennai Super Kings. He even ‘attempted to have Tamil Nadu umpires for his team’s matches’.
In a shocking revelation, Modi said Srinivasan tried to prevent Kieron Pollard from playing for Mumbai Indians by raising frivolous objections with the West Indies Cricket Board.
He demanded that an independent committee be handed over his case and stated that he intended to cross examine both Manohar and Srinivasan in the inquiry process.
As for charges against the Board president, the letter mentioned that May 7 bidding process for IPL teams was manipulated by Manohar himself.
The letter said that Manohar asked some interested parties to write letters of objection to the bid conditions and said that the Board president used those very conditions to cancel the process.
Manohar and Srinivasan could not be contacted but an official said the Board will follow its rules in disposing of the case.
