Khalsa Gymkhana registered a comfortable 3-1 win over YMCA in their MDFA Division I match at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel, on Thursday.
Pawan Ravat opened the scoring for Khalsa in the 30th minute before Ammar Ansari restored parity for YMCA immediately after the restart. But Khalsa ensured that they did not allow their opponents to dominate further in that half by playing some positive football.
They kept the ball well and frustrated their opponents. Their efforts paid off as Michael Nadal put Khalsa ahead once again in the 54th minute. Continuing their domination, Fahim Faki scored in the 68th minute to put Khalsa 3-1 up and seal the win.
Earlier in the day, Strikers SC, riding on Akshay Devadiga’s twin strikes, got the better of NACIL Air India 2-1. Valerian Mendonca scored for the losers. Air India under-19 handled the pressure well, even after they had to play the last quarter of the match with a man less, to pull off a 3-2 win against Bombay FC in a hotly-contested Super Division match.
