British Formula One driver Jenson Button is seeking permission of his team to be allowed to go to Japan’s disaster area as part of a personal effort to raise money for the tsunami victims.
He is also making a significant personal donation to help the sufferers, the Daily Express reports.
Button, who is determined to contribute to the homeland of his girlfriend, said, “This is a very personal thing for me. We are working with two charities. We got out here last Monday and spent the first three days on the internet and on the phone working with two Japanese charities, Peace Winds Japan and Civic Action, that are on the ground out there,”
“Charities that are working with the basics of food, water, shelter, blankets and that sort of thing. We’ve donated money. My personal money and Jessica’s personal money, but we are also trying to raise as much money as possible,” he added.
Button is already working with two local charities - civic force and peace winds Japan - to help raise cash and bring relief.
