The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday questioned former vice-chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Niranjan Shah with regards to IPL 2 which was held in South Africa.
The ED has been investigating the alleged misappropriation of funds during IPL 2 and has so far questioned a few officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The ED has also sent summons to former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, who is currently in London.
According to the ED sources, Shah was summoned to their office in Mumbai on Friday and was questioned by officials for five hours.
Majority of the questions to Shah revolved around the funding of the second season of the IPL. The ED is probing the alleged money laundering and violations under the foreign exchange maintenance act (FEMA) approximately to the tune of Rs1650 crores during the IPL’s second edition in 2009.
According to the ED, BCCI had entered into an agreement with Cricket South Africa (CSA) and decided to host the tournament in South Africa.
