After being shunned by the Sports Ministry and Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has been left in a lurch. A top IWF official expressed his disappointment for the treatment the body has received. “I am surprised the way we have been left to fetch for ourselves, especially when the Commonwealth Games are being held in our country,” the disappointed official told DNA, on the condition of anonymity.
Fined $500,000, the official now knows that it is for IWF to arrange for the huge sum. “We will give our best efforts to find out the right sources of help, we are going all out to the the corporates if they can bail us out of this situation,” said the concerned official.
For this newly formed IWF committee, this will be nothing less than an uphill task. What worries them more is the prospective medals which India could miss out on. “We have been traditionally strong in this sport, the talent at our disposal currently would miss out on a golden opportunity to make their mark,” concluded the official.
