The TRPs (target rating point) are out and the IPL opener on Friday night got 6.95 Tam ratings. In simple numbers, the inaugural Kolkata Knight Riders-Deccan Chargers match was seen in 17.6 million homes in six metros as compared to 13 millions (between KKR and RCB) in IPL I and 12.3 millions (between MI and CSK) in IPL II.

This is about 43 per cent higher than the opener of the previous year and is 35 per cent more than the viewership for the first match of Season One.

Kolkata topped the viewership recording 9.3 TVR (television ratings) with five of the six metros delivering over 6 ratings. Whether the numbers can be sustained is to be seen.

A-Map has put the number at 4.3, which an official said “is very, very high.” The ratings (top-6 Metro) showed a 22 per cent jump from 3.5 per cent last year.

Over and above, the net reach (in top six) was 14 per cent this season as compared to 12.6 per cent in Season II & 11.9 in Season I. Its ratings for the subsequent matches have been between 3.5 and 4. The A-Map ratings are given the day after the match while the Tam ratings come every week.“It is an excellent start. The numbers have been all-time high,” Lalit Modi told DNA from Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile, Google said it has recorded a phenomenal hits on Youtube. “So far we have got over seven million hits globally,” a Google spokesman revealed. IPL and Google recently signed two-year deal for the live streaming of the matches.
