Yuvraj Singh believes that India’s forthcoming Test series against West Indies will be important as it comes ahead of the big-ticket Australia tour.

“The conditions and the bounce of the wicket are going to be different, but at the end of the day, we are going to be playing cricket and we are going to take all the confidence that we can from the series against the West Indies in India for the Australia tour,” said Yuvraj, who was in the city for a promotional event.

On the day West Indies announced their squad for the series, Yuvraj said the visitors will sorely miss Chris Gayle. “He has scared all the bowlers in T20. A player like him is an asset for any side. He is a great guy to interact with. So, we will miss him as an opponent.

“Their fast bowlers are going to be the main opponents and it will be a challenge to face them,” added Yuvraj, who was out of the Indian team due to injury.

Yuvraj is confident that the newest inclusion in the Indian side, Rahul Sharma, whom he captained in the IPL, will do well at the international level.

He said, “Rahul did very well for Pune Warriors. Whenever I threw the ball to him, he got me a wicket and he is also very economical. It is too early to compare him to a legend like Anil Kumble, but he has a similar style. He may not have played too much domestic cricket but when you have talent that should not be something that keeps you out.”

Yuvraj praised the fielding ability of the youngsters in the Indian team, “Since 2003, the Indian team has been a good fielding unit. It has improved further after the inclusion of Virat (Kohli), (Suresh) Raina, and a few others,” he pointed out.

The southpaw is confident that Harbhajan Singh will make a strong comeback to the Indian team.

“All that I have to say to him is that when you are the best, nothing can stop you and he is the best. That is the only advice I can give him. He has played 98 Tests and picked up over 400 wickets, so he is experienced enough to put all this behind him and comeback into the team,” Yuvraj said.
