KARACHI: Pakistan cricket legend Imran Khan has advised England against travelling to India for a two-match Test series in the wake of last week's Mumbai killings, pointing out that Westerners especially Britons were the prime targets of the terrorists.
A Pakistani Urdu daily quoted the former Pakistan captain as saying Wednesday that the English cricketers should take extreme caution in deciding whether to return to India following the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
England cut short its tour of India last month after terrorists attacked several places in Mumbai, killing almost 200 people. England did not play the last two one-dayers against India and is now yet to take a final decision on whether to return to India to play two Tests.
The England Cricket Board (ECB) is to present safety and security findings to its players today, leaving the decision to return to India in their court.
In a bid to allay England fears India has switched the Test venues with Chennai now hosting the first Test Dec 11 and Mohali staging the second from Dec 19.
Readers' comments:
Imran Khan, rather than advising others what to do, better advise your country. We would advise you not to even think of coming to India as there is a greater threat to you here than to anyone else.

What else can you expect from Imran Khan? He is a Pakistani first and a respected cricketer later. The country he comes from, one cannot expect to hear advice other than what he has given to the English cricketers. Pakistan is jealous of international cricketers not worried of their safety unduly in India whereas nobody wants to go to Pakistan. One has to see his advice in that perspective.

Is Imran voicing the thoughts of the terrorists? After all, they are sheltered in his own country. He must be a happy man these days. First it was Pakistan that cricketers feared to visit. Now, thanks to his country, it is India that cricketers shall fear coming to. Not that we care. There are more serious things than the stupid game.

Imran! Please do not make yourself a laughing stock by equating India with your country. Your frustration on account of the cancellation of numerous tours to Pakistan by many nations in the past is well understood.

Instead of torturing him, be tactful in getting information, get him in confidence, and use him as an informer against Pakistan. Pay him the money he wants for his family's survival. The bottom line is, he is doing this activity as it earns money for him. It's not a crime for him. So support him and get his services. This is the best way to punish him.
