Last month, when Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium at Motera was submerged in water, it raised some doubts about the pitch. So when ICC pitch consultant Andy Atkinson visited the venue on Wednesday, the Gujarat Cricket Association officials had butterflies in their stomachs.
As part of ICC's inspection before the World Cup early next year, Atkinson was accompanied by his colleague Eugene van Vuuren.
But, contrary to GCA's apprehensions, the expert looked satisfied with the condition of the track. Atkinson, however, refused to share his views but going by his expression and body language, the pitch wasn't in bad shape. While interacting with GCA officials, Atkinson acknowledged the efforts of the Motera ground staff, which had done their work well after the deluge.
This was Atkinson's third visit to Motera in the last two years. In the past he had suggested a few changes to the GCA team led by secretary Rajesh Patel and curator Dhiraj Parsana.
