ICC pitch consultants inspected the pitches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Tuesday. It is one of the venues for next year’s World Cup to be staged in the Sub-continent.
The experts also had a look at the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s (KSCA) B ground at the stadium, where new practice pitches have been prepared.
The consultants, Andy Atkinson and Eugene van Vuuren, seemed happy with the present condition of the pitch. “The Chinnaswamy Stadium, from what I saw in December, there is a lot of improvement and everything seems OK,” said Atkinson.
The ICC team will visit other venues in the coming few days before heading to Sri Lanka after which they will file a comprehensive report on their findings.
“We are touring India for the next 10 days and then move on to Sri Lanka. We will be sending a report to the ICC who will forward the reports to Borad of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI),” he added.
The ICC team also quizzed the Chinnaswamy curator Narayan Raju on the progress. “He (Atkinson) asked me a series of questions about the pitch, its preparation and nature and I answered all of them.
He also had a look at the KSCA (B) where we have re-laid the practice pitches. We have about 20 pitches now. He was very happy with the surface and the ground condition,” said Raju.
