Narain Karthikeyan tells DNA that the race will be a catalyst for the growth of motorsports in the country.
Your first reaction…
I think it’s fantastic. I’m really excited about it. Combined with Force India on the grid it should be a real treat for the Formula One fans in our country.
What kind of fillip will it give to motorsports in the country?
Hopefully it will do for Indian motorsport what Sepang did for Malaysian motorsport. It should be just the catalyst we need to take motorsports to the next level. The automotive sector is one of the largest in Indian industry, yet until now, there has been very little interest shown by the car manufacturers in supporting motorsport. Having a world class race track should change all that. I think Indian motorsport has some very exciting days ahead.
What step should the organisers take to make it a successful event?
The key to any successful event is in the organisation and attention to detail. The Indian GP track has an extremely experienced person in Mark Hughes heading their team. I’m sure he and his team know exactly what is needed to make the event a grand success.
Will the track in Nodia be up and running on time as there have been reports that it’s running behind schedule?
Because of my NASCAR commitments, I haven’t spent that much time in India, so I’m not really aware if the circuit is on schedule or not. However, I’m sure they will do everything in their power to make sure the facility is ready in time for October 30 date set by the FIA for the very first Indian Grand Prix.
