Harsh Patel has a steady job, a doting daughter and a loving wife. But above all he has cricket. Or, better still, cricket has him. He has been in love with cricket from his childhood days - right from playing with a plastic bat and ball, and gradually moving on to watching one-dayers and Test matches on television, but always focussing on his favourite team - India. His obsession for cricket is so intense that once he celebrated his anniversary one month in advance in order to gain leave sanction from his office to watch a T-20 match live.
Gujarat boasts of having many such crazy cricket fans. Take the case of eleven-year-old Shivam Trivedi. Shivam has been a cricket fan since the age of five. The young boy is one of those few die-hard fans of Tendulkar who got the chance to wish the Master Blaster in person at the Motera Stadium when he completed 20 years of cricket.
The young fan gifted his icon, a wall clock that shows the time as reflected in a mirror. Talking about the concept Shivam says, "I was playing cricket in my bedroom when I realised that a mirror reflects objects, but in an opposite direction. And thus I got the idea of creating a clock which shows the actual time with the help of a mirror."
"The best day of my life was when I was allowed to meet Sachin Tendulkar while he was here at the Motera Stadium. He thanked me for the watch and even clicked photographs with me," says the young student of Sharda High School in Ahmedabad. Of course, this proves that we indeed come from a country where cricket is more than a religion for us.
