The football marathon, Dribble in the Drizzle, which is to be held on June 17, is an event conducted by Football Development Federation (FDF) to popularise the game in the country.

Puja Mehta, the vice-president FDF, says that the initiative is to find talent, hone their skills and develop them into world-class players.  “We came up with an idea of Football Run to attract more youth towards the game,” she says.

Several summer camps have already been conducted across the country under the leadership of Indian legend IM Vijayan and South African football player Smiley Moosa.

“We are also interacting with parents to send their kids for football coaching,” added Mehta. Mehta is optimistic that India will find a place in the Fifa World Cup by 2022.

“To reach there, we need to develop world-class infrastructure, must have a sustained youth development programme and a professional and competitive football league. Most importantly, we need corporate support,” she concluded. Those interested, can log on to www.fdf.org.in and register themselves.
