Twente Enschede's Costa Rican striker Bryan Ruiz scored a hat-trick in only four minutes to give the Dutch League leaders a 3-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam.

Frank Lampard scored four goals to help Chelsea demolish Aston Villa 7-1 in the English Premier League and stay one point behind leaders Manchester United.

Twente Enschede's Costa Rican striker Bryan Ruiz scored a hat-trick in only four minutes to give the Dutch League leaders a 3-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam.

England                                        

Manchester United stayed one point ahead of Chelsea at the top of the Premier League after both enjoyed one-sided wins. 

Frank Lampard scored four goals, including two penalties, and Florent Malouda notched a brace as Chelsea demolished Aston Villa 7-1 while United won 4-0 at Bolton Wanderers with two from Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov.

Arsenal were held 1-1 at Birmingham City and dropped three points behind Chelsea.

Netherlands                                    

Costa Rica striker Bryan Ruiz scored a hat-trick in four minutes -- including one penalty -- at the start of the second half to give leaders Twente Enschede a 3-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam.

Twente, coached by former England manager Steve McLaren, are four points clear of Ajax Amsterdam, who beat Groningen by the same score with Jan Vertonghen scoring twice.

Spain           

Leaders Real Madrid came from behind to beat neighbours Atletico Madrid 3-2.

Atletico, who have not won a Madrid derby for more than 10 years, went ahead with a curled effort from former Real player Jose Antonio Reyes in the 10th minute.

Xabi Alonso, Alvaro Arbeloa and Argentina forward Gonzalo Higuain scored in a 13-minute spell after halftime for Real before Uruguay forward Diego Forlan pulled one back from a penalty in the 68th minute.

Real stayed ahead of Barcelona on goal difference after the Catalans won 1-0 at fourth-placed Real Mallorca with a second-half Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal. 

Italy                                           

Second-placed AS Roma beat leaders Inter Milan 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico to cut the gap at the top to a point with seven games left.

Daniele De Rossi profited from a rare mistake from Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar to put Roma ahead but Argentina Diego Milito equalised for the champions.

Luca Toni, looking to force his way back into the Italy squad, bagged Roma's winner midway through the second half.

Third-placed AC Milan wasted the chance to move level on points with Roma when they were held to a 1-1 home draw by lowly Lazio.

France                                           

Montpellier wasted a chance to go top of Ligue 1 when they were thrashed 4-1 at Lille.

Surprise package Montpellier, back in the top flight after a long spell in the second division, stayed level on points with leaders Girondins Bordeaux, who have a better goal difference and two games in hand.

Bordeaux lost 3-1 to Olympique Marseille in the League Cup final at Stade de France on Saturday.

Auxerre, in third position one point back, will go top if they win at Monaco on Monday (1900 GMT).                                              

Germany                                         

Bundesliga top scorer Kevin Kuranyi struck twice in the first half to steer Schalke 04 to a 2-0 win over fellow title contenders Bayer Leverkusen and send them two points clear at the top.

Sluggish Bayern Munich slumped to their second consecutive league loss, a 2-1 home defeat by VfB Stuttgart, to drop into second place.

Leverkusen's title hopes were severely dented following their second straight league loss which left them a further three points behind Bayern in third.

Portugal                                       

Benfica stretched their lead at the top to six points by beating second-placed Braga 1-0 at home. Brazil defender Luisao scored just before halftime, firing in from close range.

Third-placed Porto moved within five points of Braga with a 3-0 away win against Beleneses thanks to goals by defender Rolando, Brazilian forward Hulk and Colombian Radamel Falcao.

Greece                                       

Panathinaikos closed in on their first Super League title since 2004 after winning 3-0 win at Atromitos. 

Greece striker Dimitris Salpigidis put the Greens ahead after 18 minutes, Djibril Cisse converted a 74th-minute penalty before Sebastian Leto added a third with one minute left.

Second-placed Olympiakos dropped six points behind after a goalless draw at Skoda Xanthi.

Bulgaria                                         

Thirty-six fans were arrested after the Sofia derby between Levski and CSKA which ended in a dour goalless draw.

The game was interrupted in the second half as firemen and riot police moved in to quell the violence which broke out after fans threw flares on to the running track around the pitch.

Serbia                                         

Serbia striker Dejan Lekic scored his first two goals since the winter break to steer league leaders Red Star Belgrade to a 3-0 win over Vojvodina Novi Sad.

Lekic opened the scoring with a header from Nikola Lazetic's cross and drilled in the second before substitute Milos Trifunovic sealed the win with a clinical finish.

Red Star are two points ahead of champions and traditional city rivals Partizan, who stayed in touch after an injury-time goal by defender Marko Jovanovic gave them a 2-1 win at first division newcomers BSK Borca.

Ukraine                                    

Shakhtar Donetsk beat Arsenal Kiev 3-1 at home to chalk up their ninth successive league win and stay two points clear of champions Dynamo Kiev, who beat Metalist Kharkiv 3-0.

Brazilians Jadson, Willian and Douglas Costa scored for Shakhtar while Artem Milevskiy netted two goals and Taras Mikhalik added the third for Dynamo.                                                                                   

Poland                                        

Champions Wisla Krakow, chasing their third successive league title, won 3-1 at Polonia Bytom to go four points clear of closest rivals Lech Poznan who were held to a goalless draw at Odra Wodzislaw Slask.

Strikers Pawel Brozek and Rafal Bogunski and Costa Rican defender Junior Diaz struck for Wisla.

Scotland                                        

Celtic beat Kilmarnock 3-1 in their first game under interim coach Neil Lennon who replaced Tony Mowbray, sacked after a 4-0 midweek defeat to St Mirren. Robbie Keane scored twice and Scott Brown added the third.

Celtic are still 10 points behind Rangers and have played two games more after their rivals thumped Hearts 4-1 with Steven Naismith scoring twice.
