The long pending dream of people of Kozhikode to have a stadium with a synthetic track would be fructified with the laying of the foundation stone for the purpose at the Medical College grounds here on August 2.
Speaking to mediapersons here today, KJ Mathai, president, Kozhikode district sports council, said the estimated cost for
the stadium and synthetic track would be Rs15 crore and the
construction was expected to be completed in seven months.
The stadium will have facilities including a health club, VIP lounge, dressing rooms for players, media centre and lodging facility for about 200 players, he said.
Kozhikode has been chosen as the venue for volleyball and football for the 35th National Games, which has been allotted
to Kerala.
The Corporation Stadium, where the football matches will be played, will renovated to make it on par with international standards. A Rs 25 crore Indoor Stadium will be built at
nearby Chevayoor, he said.
Kerala industries minister, Elamaram Kareem will lay the foundation stone, while sports minister M Vijayakumar, will
preside, he said.
