Don Bosco, Matunga, put half a dozen goals, without reply, past traditional rivals St Stanislaus, Bandra, in the final of the MSSA boys’ under-14 inter-school hockey tournament at the MHA Mahindra stadium, on Thursday.

The Matunga side attacked from the outset and opened the score in the second minute of the game through skipper Rohan Shinde.

The Bosco captain, playing in the right-back position, doubled the score in the very next minute, when a powerful shot on target from the top of the circle could not be stopped by the Stanislaus defence.

Such was Don Bosco’s dominance in the first period that they only left their centre-back Aayush Shetty and left-back Keanu D’Souza in their own half. St Stanislaus’s Mukul Khilnani tried to bring his side back into the game but his shots were off target. Late in the first half, Neville D’Cunha chipped Mervin Anthony’s cross to beat the St Stanislaus keeper and increased Don Bosco’s lead to three.

The second half saw continued domination from the Bosco boys as their opponents started committing fouls because of frustration.

The Bandra side’s Dale Hendriques got a green card for a dangerous swing of the stick and Earl Almeida was shown yellow for stick check from behind.

Don Bosco got their fourth from a penalty corner, as Jess Kenny scored from the rebound of Shinde’s shot. Shinde later completed his hat-trick from a much closer distance than his first two goals. Darren Nunes scored the final goal seconds before full time from a very narrow angle.

Meanwhile, the Don Bosco senior team was defeated 0-2 by Children’s Academy, Malad, in the boy’s under-16 final.
