The entire storm brewing around Sandeep Singh’s fitness has finally been put to rest. Hockey India on Saturday issued a statement ruling out the drag-flicker from the Champions Challenge hockey tournament to be held in Argentina. Diwakar Ram has been named as Sandeep’s replacement for the tournament.

To get a clear picture, DNA spoke to Dr Parag Sancheti, who has been following up Singh’s case. Sancheti said that Singh has suffered a nerve root injury and a mild slip disc. On Friday, he was given a root block injection, which gave Sandeep partial relief from pain. He added: “We have advised him bed rest for 3 weeks and then we will examine him again.” The doctor said that he can do some light cardio exercises.

When asked about his participation in the World Cup, the doctor said, “He should be fine by mid-December, and would have enough time to shape up before the World Cup in February-end.
