Former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar lauded the Tata Group’s contribution to sports at the Tata Sports Club’s platinum jubilee celebration in Boisar on February 10.
At the prize distribution ceremony of the Inter-Tata cricket and kabaddi tournament, organised as part of the celebration, Vengsarkar said that kabaddi should be included in the Olympics. Former Tata players such as Vishu Lele, Sharad Hazare, Suresh Devbhakt, Milind Rege, Milind Gunjal, Prakash Puranik, Hemant Kenkre, Ravi Kulkarni and Ravi Thakkar were felicitated on the occasion.
Vengsarkar also lauded the Tata Group for employing sportsmen and promoting sports like hockey, football, athletics, billiards and snooker apart from cricket. He feted Bipin Patil, who works at Tata’s Steel Wire Division, for taking good care of the ground at Boisar and one at Tarapur MIDC.
Tata Services won the cricket title while Tata Steel Wire Division was victorious in the kabaddi competition.
