Facing flak for the capital's tardy preparations for next year's Commonwealth Games, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit today visited various project sites to take stock of the progress of work herself.
The chief minister inspected construction of a Railway Under Bridge (RUB) near Shahdara and directed Railway authorities to speed up work on the project.
She also asked authorities to complete work on the 5.5 km long Ring Road by-pass much before the commencement of the Commonwealth Games.
The CM also visited Chhatrasal stadium to take stock of redevelopment work. Officials said the chief minister will continue to closely monitor the projects being undertaken as part of preparations to the event.
Dikshit was informed that part of work near the RUB being executed by the PWD will be completed before June.
Railway officials said their work will be completed by May 2010. The work on this project, which will cost around Rs 654 crore, was started in January 2009.
Out of 5.5 km by-pass, 3.7 km is on the surface whereas the rest is elevated.
The purpose of construction of Ring Road by-pass is to decongest Ring Road from Rajghat to Hanuman Setu. The Ring Road will pass under the new Geeta Colony bridge on river Yamuna.
