After a pompous start and four days of good show, the Delhi Games suddenly plunges into crisis. A horde of swimmers has fallen sick and the pool water is being blamed for it.

Over a dozen swimmers from Australia and England have fallen ill in the latest setback for the trouble-plagued organisers in New Delhi. British media reported on Thursday that 20% of the English swimmers — about eight to 10 competitors — had been struck down with a stomach virus.

The Australian team confirmed at least six of its swimmers had been sick. Whether it was the pool water or just a case of ‘Delhi Belly’, which isn’t uncommon for visitors to India, it was yet another problem to plague the event.
