Youngsters from 12 different states with sparkling eyes, mischievous smile and eagerness to make it big, had their life’s most memorable moments on Saturday. The Under-14 boys who were in Mumbai for the 55th National School Game, were more than happy to meet former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar at the prize distribution ceremony of the event.

The youngsters also took snaps with the former India chief selector after the event.
Vengsarkar told the youngsters to play for the team instead of focusing on their individual performances alone. “Here parents ask what did you do in the match, how much did you score or how many wickets did you take? But in Australia they ask did your team win the game. This is what makes the difference. One should always play for the team. If you score a 100 and your team loses it won’t be of any importance but if you score 60-70 odd to take your team to a win that will always be talked about,” Vengsarkar said during the awards function.

He also inspired the youngsters to take up education as the priority along with the game. “Education is very important. Not everybody will be able to play for India but education will always remain with you hence you should play then go home and study,” he added.
Meanwhile Punjab U-14 team outplayed Chandigarth U-14 team by six wickets to lift the National Boys U-14 cricket crown, of the 55th National School Game. The third place went to Uttar Pradesh.

Brief Scores, Final: Chandigarth 94 in 23.3 Ovs (Y Kapila 29, Vishwanath 2-6, A Singh 2-16) lost to Punjab 97-4 in 18.4 Ovs (A Singh 44*). MoM: Anmolpreet Singh; MoS: Anmolpreet Singh; Best Batsmen: Rahul Kumar; Best Bowler: Shubhanshu Pandey.
