The South Africans may have ignored Albie Morkel’s credentials in the shorter version of the game, but Chennai Super Kings’ skipper MS Dhoni reposes a lot of faith in the bowling abilities of his team’s import.
Defending his decision to open the bowling with Morkel against Deccan Chargers, Dhoni said, “Morkel has the knack of taking wickets. We are hopeful that he can give us may be one or two early wickets as that can really have a big impact.” Dhoni and his CSK would look for a better result against the Knight Riders in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Dhoni, however, conceded that the bowling at the death was disappointing and far too many runs were conceded. He also complimented his counterpart Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds and Herschelle Gibbs, who played a lead role in ensuring that the Chargers had a challenging total to defend.
“If you chase 190 and if you lose early wickets, it becomes difficult for other batsmen to maintain the momentum. You have to stabilise and get those runs. We lost quite a lot of wickets and the pitch was also on the slower side,” he stated.
