In India, in many ways cricket is like the pulse of the nation. So, on the occasion of Independence Day, we spoke to some young cricketers including the maverick Virender Sehwag, the flamboyant Suresh Raina, the reliable Dinesh Karthik, middle order mainstay Rohit Sharma and the hot new find Murali Vijay to share their thoughts on how to take the country to the next level.

“In my opinion, the way forward for our country would be by improving the infrastructure. The roads, traffic, public utilities...all of it needs to be worked on, especially the traffic in most metros in India has been going out of control,” Virender  says.

“Going green is definitely the way forward for me. It is very important that we all work towards conserving energy as the global resources are now depleting. Everyone needs to do their little bit towards saving these resources,” feels wicketkeeper and batsman Dinesh.

Suresh adds in, “I think we’d go a long way if we could just be more tolerant and understanding. We’ve seen India’s strength during tough times. We are clearly capable of great things. I’m very proud to be Indian.”

Meanwhile, Rohit furthers, “The one thing that could take the nation forward is getting rid of corruption. It’s a huge problem in all fields and it spoils whatever it touches.”

Murali ends by saying, “Fighting corruption is the best way to take our country forward as it’s one of the biggest obstacles to the smooth running of an economy.”
