At 34, Brett Lee hasn’t lost an ounce of his charm as he had women of all ages giggling and swooning as they queued up to get just a tiny peek at the Australian cricketer.

On Wednesday evening, it was not his bowling but his fingers that worked out a rhythm from his red bass guitar that sent the girls at Firangi Paani, Andheri, into a tizzy.

Sporting a grey T-shirt and jeans, Lee and his White Shoe Theory bandmate Mick Vawdon belted out their original number In My Shoes and kicked off their tour of India here.

The band will perform across six cities in the country. The band will move from here to Pune, Bangalore, Goa, Chandigarh and end their tour in Delhi on November 20.

When asked why they picked India for their tour, Lee said, “Anything is possible in India. It’s that rawness that I love. I feel welcome here every single time and it’s like my second home.”
Lee kept the crowd entertained as he used a few hindi words and said that he picked up new words everytime he visited India.

Lee said he took up music to find a balance in his life between cricket and music. “Music transcends any culture, that’s what’s so great about it.” Mick said he is excited about his fourth trip to India.

“We are doing some original songs here and a lot of rock covers. Our album should be finished by December.”

When asked what was more difficult — writing a song or bowling to Sachin? Lee said, “That’s a really tough one. Both test you but it’s very tough to bowl to Sachin and sometimes lyrics come to you easier.”

The band has a mainstream rock sound to it and Mick added, “We have a lot of influences from the Beatles to Bryan Adams and Green Day.”

Asked about his favourite cricketer, Lee was quick to respond, “Sachin Tendulkar. He is a God as far as cricket goes.” He said he is also keen on participating in the next edition of the IPL. “I’m fitter at 34 than I was at 24. I would love to compete in IPL 4.”

Looking ahead, Lee said, “I’m also here to do some training and I’m back to being 100% fit. I am excited about bowling those thunderbolts again. I’m loving playing injury free and look forward to making it back to the Australian ODI squad.”

He signed off in signature style, singing and strumming on his guitar, while the girls swooned with stars in their eyes.
