The officials of the state units of the Board of Control for Cricket in India will have bonanza awaiting them even as the Mumbai Cricket Association said it will boycott the tournament.
The IPL has sent out invitation to state associations for five major events of the league — the Red Carpet night (Thursday night), Opening ceremony (Friday), IPL awards (to be decided), 3rd place play-off and the final. The state associations have been asked to depute one official each to these events.
However, the MCA said it is not too happy with the treatment meted out to them. “We’ve not been offered any passes for the league. There are so many cricketers in Mumbai who we send passes to. We’re not going to the red carpet event,” MCA joint secretary Lalchand Rajput said. But one IPL official said enough passes have been sent to the MCA.
Rajput also claimed that the association has not got any passes for the Mumbai Indians home matches which are being hosted at the Brabourne Stadium.
Meanwhile, the IPL has offered the state units two packages for
hosting the matches. The state associations will get Rs50 lakh per match if they take up the responsibility of security for the matches. If the IPL were to provide security at the hosting centres, the state units then will be entitled for Rs10 lakh each.
Some associations like Gujarat Cricket Association and Orissa Cricket Association have opted for the Rs50 lakh packages while others like Rajasthan Cricket Association, which hosts three Rajasthan Royals matches, have opted for Rs10 lakh option.
