S Sreesanth’s repeated thanks to the Almighty during the post-match press conference was not as much a point of interest as the fact that Harbhajan Singh had played an important role in his five-for here on Thursday.
“Bhajji bhai helped keep the shine on the ball and that was of great help. I have always looked up to him as a cricketer,” said Sreesanth about the senior compatriot with whom he was involved in the infamous ‘Slapgate’ incident during the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL).
Sreesanth conceded that he had not expected to play for India again after injuries coupled with a general aversion kept the seam bowler out of the team for 19 months, and he suggested that some kind of a divine intervention had helped make a comeback.
“I had almost given up hope of playing again for the country and it has been something of a new beginning at the same venue that I played my last match,” said Sreesanth. “I have started to enjoy the game more now and plan to look at every game as a debut while trying not to remember the past, Sreesanth said.
