Australian stand-in captain Shane Watson has described his side’s performance in the drawn one-day series against the West Indies as ''very disappointing,'' and warned that his side needs to rekindle its ruthlessness.

"We're at a stage where things look like we're cruising OK and change quite quickly. That's happened since I've come back into the Australian team over the last 10 games. It's something we certainly need to work on. To tie the series, especially when in a number of those games we were at a stage where we should have buried the West Indies, it's probably very disappointing,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Watson, as saying.

Watson was reflecting on his side’s performance after claiming a 30-run win in the final match to level the series two all.

Australia let the West Indies make a comeback in the match when victory seemed assured.

The hosts, who were chasing a 282-run target, appeared finished when captain Darren Sammy arrived at the crease with the score 7-118.

But skipper Sammy smashed 84 off 50 balls, as he and Andre Russell scored 101 of 59 deliveries for the eighth wicket to put the Windies back in the match.

Australia, however, had enough runs on the board to neutralise Sammy's blitz.

Australia is at the risk of losing the World No.1 one-day ranking after the drawing the series against the West Indies.

The levelling of the series has cost Australia four ranking points to bring South Africa just five points behind in second place.

The series also proved costly for stand-in captain Shane Watson, who has lost his world No.1 all-rounder rank to Bangladesh player Shakib Al Hasan.

Watson had emerged as the top bowler after the triangular series in Australia earlier this month, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

The West Indies, have, however, gained seven ranking points to join New Zealand on 86 points.

West Indies captain Darren Sammy has climbed 18 places to 16th position, Russell has gained 16 places to occupy 18th spot while Pollard has broken into the top 20 for the first time in 19th position.
