Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that failing to qualify for the Champions League would be ‘disastrous’.

His comment strongly contrasts with Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood’s earlier statement that it would not be a disaster if the club fails to qualify for top four places.

"For me it would be, because I want to play with the best."

"We want to be in there, in the top four and anything else would not be good enough," The Sun quoted Wenger, as saying.

"You want to play big games and this is a big game that comes at a moment when we want to convince people that we are capable of coming back into the top four," he added.

His comments came ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United in the Emirates.

Arsenal is currently ranked fifth in the league table and trailing Chelsea by four points.
