Mumbai: World Anti -Doping Agency president John Fahey has reacted strongly to the BCCI and its player's non-compliance with the Anti-Doping Code. "Wada laments the latest decision of the BCCI and is concerned by it," Fahey told DNA on Sunday.
"One of the key principles of efficient doping control is the possibility to test an athlete without advance notice, and athlete whereabouts information is crucial to ensure that surprise effect," Fahey added.
"Out-of-competition doping controls are one of the most powerful means of deterrence and detection of doping. They are also an important step in strengthening athlete and public confidence in doping-free sport," the Wada president added.
Fahey said he hoped that MS Dhoni & Co will come around. "Wada expects that Indian cricketers and the BCCI will understand that as the ambassadors and guardians of their sport, they have a duty to protect its integrity and will see the benefits of cooperating with the ICC to enforce the World Anti-Doping Code like the rest of the world."
According to Wada 571 sporting organisations have accepted the anti-doping code. They include the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee, International Sports Federation and the UNESCO. In all, 191 countries have approved the code.
