Amandeep Singh reigns supreme at cyclothon

Singh of the Indian Railways won the Elite National Race of the BSA Hercules India Cyclothon with 28 points at the Bandra Kurla Complex on Sunday.

Amandeep Singh of the Indian Railways won the Elite National Race of the BSA Hercules India Cyclothon with 28 points at the Bandra Kurla Complex on Sunday.

The Elite National Race was a 60km long race which had 118 participants from around the country. The race had a close finish with the leader Amandeep facing tough competition from another Indian Railways rider Rakesh Kumar, who came second and third placed Sachin Kumar from Delhi.

Besides the Elite race, the event had a number of non-competitive races that saw cycling enthusiasts from the city turn up in numbers.

The Corporate Ride and the Amateur’s Ride for Health, which were 20km long, had 1,632 and 1,651 participants respectively. The 10km Green Ride for participants above 14 years had 2,871 racers while the Junior Ride for children below the age of 13 had 768 riders.

The event also marked the opening of the MMRDA cycling track at BKC, which was inaugurated by Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan. Also present, to show their support for the event, were India’s F1 racer Karun Chandok, Miss Earth 2010 Nicole Faria, Bollywood actor Imran Khan, Priya Dutt and Milind Deora.
