A day after Hockey India (HI) chief AK Mattoo flew down to the city for peace talks between warring players and chief coach Jose Brasa, a team insider has revealed that things are not as peaceful as they seem. Mattoo, who held a five-hour long meeting with Brasa and the players on Thursday, had said that everything was sorted out. However, a player disclosed that there is more to come.
“The meeting has not done any good for the side. There will be more problems. Personally, I am not satisfied. Whatever happened on Thursday will ultimately affect the Indian team,” the player said warning, “There is more to come before the team leaves for Argentina. Something big will happen.”
According to him, Brasa’s theories are too difficult to comprehend. “The whole episode has hit the unity of the team. Groupism and favouritism can be seen clearly. We don’t know who will be the next captain. The coach tried to appoint five different captains for a particular series. The theory was a disaster for the team’s unity as it created a rift among players,” the player pointed out.
When asked to elaborate on ‘groupism’, he said, “Some players are against Brasa, some are for him, while some others switch sides according to the situation.”
When asked about the stance of governing body Hockey India, the player said, “The national body is with the players.”
