Triple Tour de France winner Alberto Contador will learn on Thursday the result of a long-running doping investigation, the Spanish Cycling Federation president Juan Carlos Castano said on Wednesday.

Asked if Contador would be told of the provisional decision on Thursday, Castano replied: "Yes, we aren''t going to delay this any longer."

Contador, who won the Tour de France in 2010 for a third time, tested positive for a banned stimulant clenbuterol in the race in July but has denied any wrongdoing.

Contador will have 10 days to appeal the Federation''s (RFEC) decision if he is found guilty and can also decide if he wishes to make the decision public. He is understood to be training currently in Mallorca.

The rider's spokesperson Jacinto Vidarte said they were unaware of the RFEC's agenda.

A source close to the matter said that the sport's governing body, the UCI, who were asked by the RFEC for scientific consultation, had not sent anything yet.

But the RFEC is free to act without the UCI's consultancy, the source added.

"We've heard nothing from the UCI, it's been over a month," said Castano.

"We're not going to delay it any further."

A final ruling on the matter is expected between Feb. 11-15. Contador, the UCI and also the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will have the possibility to take the matter before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) should they feel the decision is too soft or too harsh.

CAS is sport's final court of appeal.

In recent years, the sport has been tarnished by high profile doping cases including 1996 Tour winner Bjarne Riis and 2006 champion Floyd Landis. Contador had been regarded within cycling as clearly the best rider in the world.
