New Manchester City star Samir Nasri has lashed out at Arsenal saying they ‘lack ambition’ and did not try hard to keep him in the club.

Nasri accepted a 24 million pound deal from Manchester City and turned his back on the Gunners earlier this week.

“I started talks with Arsenal about a contract extension last October. But June came around and I had not heard any news and I could not see any players being brought in during the transfer window,” Nasri was quoted, as saying by The Sun.

“At a given point you have to make an investment. I would hear from time to time it was a question of money. It’s fair to say I will earn a good living at City. But I am 24, I have reached a turning point in my career and it was important for me to join a club that matched my ambitions,” he added.

Nasri said Manchester City was a competitive team and his stay in the club will improve his game.

“City have an enormous squad but the competition for places will make me challenge myself and improve my game. I won’t retreat into a comfort zone — and maybe that is what I did when I was at Arsenal,” Nasri said.

Nasri heaped praise on Gunners manager Arsene Wenger and called on Arsenal to keep faith with his fellow Frenchman.

“I owe Arsene a huge debt. It is thanks to him that I became an international. He really made me realize what I can do and I will forever be grateful to him,” Nasri said.

“The only thing I would say is trust Arsene Wenger. He knows what he is doing. He is a wonderful human being and deserves a lot of respect,” he added.(ANI)
